Network OfficeThe CASCADE Network Office ensures coordination and management of CASCADE Network of Excellence activities such as administration, dissemination, teaching, infrastructure and science.
The Network Office is located at Karolinska Institutet in Stockholm at Coordinator’s site and is formed by following personnel:
Jan-Åke is Chairman of Department of Biosciences and Nutrition, Karolinska Institutet. Jan-Åke has his expertise in Molecular Endocrinology, Molecular Nutrition and Molecular Toxicology. His main research achievements are in the field of nuclear receptors; e.g. first to define nuclear receptor domains, first to define hormone response elements in nuclear receptor regulated genes and discovered oestrogen receptor beta. As Coordinator of CASCADE, Jan-Åke is responsible for the planning and leading of the network activities (following the Consortium Agreement and PSC decisions). He is the main legal entity with respect to the European Commission and the primary conduit between the EC and the consortium i.e. the project partners.
Dr. Ingemar Pongratz, Vice Coordinator Ingemar has a Ph.D. in Biology. He received an Assistant Professorship from the Swedish research Council 2000-2004 and has his own research group at the Department for Biosciences and Nutrition, Karolinska Institutet where he studies the crosstalk between nuclear receptors and bHLH-PAS proteins. As Vice Coordinator, Ingemar works close to the Coordinator and is in charge of strategic issues regarding CASCADE, its improvements and future plans.
Ms. Lisbeth Sjödin, Head of Network Office Lisbeth has a Bachelor of Economics and a marketing background and thus brings a valuable skill set to the network management team. She has considerable expertise in event organisation and fund raising activities as well as administrative skills. As the administrative head of Network Office, Lisbeth is overall responsible for the day-to-day work and planning of Network Office activities.
Dr. Maria Bondesson, Integration Manager Maria Bondesson has a BSc in microbiology, a PhD in molecular biology/virology. In periods one and two Maria Bondesson has been the Scientific Manager and monitored the scientific progress of CASCADE. Now she focus on preparation of future planning for CASCADE, including durability issues.
Assoc. Prof. Lars-Arne Haldosén, Scientific Manager Lars-Arne Haldosén has an MD and PhD in molecular endocrinology from Karolinska Institutet and is Associate Professor in molecular endocrinology. Lars-Arne Haldosén is responsible for monitoring the scientific progress of CASCADE.
Assoc. Prof. Johanna Zilliacus, Teaching Manager Johanna’s scientific background is MSc in biochemistry, PhD in molecular endocrinology, and Associate Professor in endocrine research. Together with this strong scientific background, Johanna brings her solid expertise in scientific teaching and training to CASCADE. As Teaching Manager, Johanna is responsible for the coordination of all CASCADE teaching activities and arrangement of CASCADE schools and courses.
Mrs. Jennika Gill, Administration Manager Jennika has a Master of Political Sciences. She has considerable experience and expertise in European Commission R&D funding procedures and requirements and hence brings valuable skills to CASCADE. Jennika is responsible for CASCADE relations with the European Commission and partners regarding administrative matters such as periodic reporting, contractual issues and future funding issues including FP7.
Dr. Manuela Hase Integration Manager - Project Developer Manuela Hase has a PhD in cell and molecular biology and a post doc in functional genomics. She is also a trained copywriter and will use her scientific and writing skills to support Science in Society tasks, such as the presentation of CASCADE research results to the public. Manuela Hase is taking part in the composition and development of the external and internal websites and coordinates integration projects, such as the CASCADE database and publication tools.
