University and research group information
- UMR 1089 Xénobiotiques is part of the Human Nutrition department of INRA, the French National Institute for Research in Agronomy.
- The department research focus on Human nutrition and food safety
- The UMR ('Joint Research Unit') comprises 22 scientists, 5 teachers and 15 technicians. It is located at the INRA Laboratory of Xenobiotics and at the National Veterinary School of Toulouse.
The main research areas of UMR 1089 are:
- The transfer of xenobiotics along the food chain (absorption, transport, metabolism, elimination, residue identification, formation of toxic metabolites).
- Xeno-biochemistry: enzymology, modulation of enzyme expression, comparative metabolism.
- Environmental toxicology: metabolism and mode of action of endocrine disruptors.
- Metabolic toxicology: formation of DNA adducts.
- Research for biomarkers of oxidative stress.
- Dietary factors modulating colorectal carcinogenesis.

Contribution to CASCADE
Within the CASCADE Network, UMR 1089 main task is to investigate the metabolic fate of selected chemicals and model compounds, with the aim to achieve a clear understanding of the structures able to trigger a biological response in in vivo and in vitro models. Xenobiotic biotransformation are being studied in tight collaboration with CASCADE network partners using selected experimental models.
